Carol Sawyer: The Natalie Brettschneider Archivetraces the history of the archives many iterations over the last twenty plus years. In addition to photographs from the archive, the book features an essay written by Erin Silver, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice at UBCs Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory as well as writings by Heather Anderson, Curator at CUAG and lead organizer of the books production; Michelle Jacques, Chief Curator at the AGGV; Bruce Grenville, Senior Curator at the VAG; and Mona Filip, Director/Curator at the Koffler Gallery.
Vikky Alexander: Extreme Beautys a beautifully illustrated retrospective of nearly four decades of Alexanders work. Since the 1980s, Alexander has made numerous series of photographs, montages, sculptures, collages and installations, all working to hone a vision that captures the spectacle and inherent falseness of certain public and private spaces. From the exaggerated architecture of Versailles, Disneyland and the West Edmonton Mall, to the use of idyllic natural settings and the skin-deep beauty of fashion models, she unravels the mechanisms of display that shape meaning and desire in our culture.
Dana Claxton: Fringing the Cubeis the first monograph to examine the full breadth and scope of Claxtons practice. It is extensively illustrated and includes essays by Claxtons colleague Jaleh Mansoor, Associate Professor in the Department of Art History, Visual Art & Theory at the University of British Columbia; Monika Kin Gagnon, Professor in the Communications Department at Concordia University, who has followed Claxtons work for 25 years; Olivia Michiko Gagnon, a New Yorkbased scholar and doctoral student in Performance Studies; and Grant Arnold, Audain Curator of British Columbia Art at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
