Traditionally, the black koinobori was the largest on display and represented the father. The first son was represented by the red koinobori, with subsequent sons displayed in other colors. When Boys Day (Tango no Sekku) was re-branded as Childrens Day (Kodomo no hi), the colors of the koi changed representations–the black koi represented the father, the red koi represented the mother, and the sons (or daughters) represented by other colors in no particular order, but in diminishing sizes. This spirited carp is made from solid brass, electro-plated with an black, yellow and gold finish, giclee print. 4″L.
