Similar to a ray or skate, the Angel Shark is recognised by its distinctive flat-bodied shape. By day, these nocturnal bottom-dwelling sharks spend most of their time buried under the sand in depths of up to 150 metres. This, as well as their excellent vision, makes them superb ambush predators.
The Angel Shark can live for up to 35 years, weighs around 77 pounds and grows to approximately two metres long. The species has now been classified as critically endangered.
