The Yakutian horse is native to the Siberian Sakha Republic. It is famed for its ability to adapt to Yakutia’ extreme cold climate that often reaches -70c – the Yakutian horse is able to graze on vegetation buried under deep snow and survive in shelter at extreme temperatures.

Yakution stallions average 1.4 metres (13.3 hands) and share similarities to other northern breeds such as the Icelandic horse, Fjord horse and Shetland pony. The Northern type of Yakutian horse is the purest bred Yakut (also known as the Middle Kolyma or Verkhoyansk horse) and is light or grey in colour.
