Oji Inari is the head shrine of Inari in the Kanto region.

This work depicts the legend that on the night of New Year’s Eve,

foxes from all over Kanto gather, change into their attire,

and visit Oji Inari as a New Year’s greeting.

People would predict a good harvest by the number of foxfires.

The effect of “mica-printing” is clearly visible in the darkness.

One Hundred Famous Views of Edo is a series of ukiyo-e prints

begun and largely completed by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797~1858)
